The World Premiere of “Schisma,” composed by Caroline Shaw, performed by Brooklyn Rider, and commissioned by Madeline Island Chamber Music, has just been released on video by Wisconsin Public Television.
The June 29, 2018 performance on Madeline Island was captured for this eight-minute video, which includes brief interviews with Brooklyn Rider along with Madeline Island Chamber Music Artistic Director Jonathan Swartz and Executive Director Susan Chandler. Wisconsin Public Television is working on a 60-minute program on Madeline Island Chamber Music that will air later in the spring.
Caroline Shaw is the youngest recipient of the Pulitzer Prize in music, which she received in 2013. She is also a member of the vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth, and has composed for everything from orchestras and string quartets to rapper Kanye West.
The piece is part of Brooklyn Rider’s project Healing Modes, five new commissions that explore the subject of healing from a wide range of historical and cultural perspectives.
