Brooklyn Rider, a featured string quartet at Madeline Island Chamber Music, has released their album Healing Modes that includes the new work “Schisma” commissioned by Madeline Island Chamber Music for Brooklyn Rider and composed by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw. The album is centered around the slow movement of Beethoven’s String Quartet Opus 132, the “Heiliger Dankgesang eines Genesenen an die Gottheit, in der lydischen Tonart” or “Song of Thanksgiving to the Deity from a Convalescent in the Lydian mode,” which is considered an expression of healing and thankfulness after Beethoven recovered from an illness late in his life.
This CD also includes new works commissioned for Brooklyn Rider composed by Reena Esmail, Gabriela Lena Frank, Matana Roberts, and Du Yun.
